The Past..
Martin memorial was founded in a model home in Richmond Heights on October 19, 1951. The church’s original name was Mt. Pleasant AME Church because the members felt that Richmond Heights was a pleasant place to worship.
In 1957, we marched up Carver Drive to our new home on Lincoln Blvd. The tract of land that the church stands on was donated to the AME Church by the late Captain Frank C. Martin.
In 1954, we received our charter from the General Church and Mt. Pleasant was changed to Martin Memorial AME Church as a tribute to the late Captain Frank C. Martin who conceived and founded the community of Richmond Heights. This name was submitted by the late Mrs. Mary James. Martin Memorial has had many beloved pastors, our current pastors Rev. Dr. Anthony and Rev. Karen Reed were assigned here in 2005. The Reed Team has continued to move Martin Memorial from glory to glory and through them "The Purple Church" was birthed and has become a true ministry in action!

The Present...
The Purple Nation is a Movement of believers who have activated their faith by going outside the box of the normal four walls of religion and taking the word of God to the street by witnessing the love and power of God in the stores, restaurants, and the streets of Miami.
You can catch this group of witnesses in Publix, Walmart, Target and other places of interest.
Groups have had the pleasure of seeing the lost saved, as well as develop long-lasting friendships with the unchurched as the Hands of God have healed broken hearts and minds through prayer.
Every month The Purple Nation hit the streets to reach the lost for the Kingdom of God.

The Future...
Dr. Anthony Reed has spearheaded a building project on what is known as 'The Field of Faith". Through his vision Dr. Anthony Reed was able to secure partnerships to change the dynamics of Richmond Heights by laying the groundwork for a 100 plus work force housing apartment complex as well as a multifaceted life center and an expanded sanctuary. These partners will join with the Anvil Community Development Corporation which is the 501c(3) arm of Martin Memorial AME Church "The Purple Church"
